Isaac Mizrahi is back with a Twist!

I've always been a sucker for sweet and feminine clothing...a touch of whimsy that's been sugar coated with lady-like touches. This spring, I'm jonesing for the new Isaac Mizrahi collection for Liz Clairborne. Yes, you read it right; Liz Clairborne...that once tired label that you remember your mother clamouring for in the 1980's is back with avenges...thanks to the clever and quirky designs of Isaac.

As I reviewed the collection, I could see myself dressed in every single one of the amazingly fun pieces. I have always been a sucker for cute skirts, flouncy dresses, ruffled necklines and over-sized flower pins. But please, don't believe for one minute that this collection is...yawn...boring. Isaac added his usual touches of bold, statement colors and interesting details to the garments.
I guess one could say that the collection could be described as, "Classic with a Sweet & Citrusy Twist."

Vogue Celebrates Michelle!

I was beginning to think that we were still living in the dark ages, when every time I picked up the latest issue of Vogue; there was no Michelle. Well guess who's on the cover of the March issue of American Vogue....First Lady Michelle Obama!!!

Our First Lady will grace the cover wearing a pink sheath dress by, now famed, Jason Wu (the designer of her inauguration gown). The caption reads, "The First Lady the World's Been Waiting For"

Shot by famous photographer, Annie Leibovitz, Michelle looks relaxed and self-assured. How apropos that she would appear on the Spring issue, when spring is a time of new beginnings and fresh ideas.

Thank you Vogue for not letting America down. But please, don't stop at First Lady Obama. Beauty comes in all colors!

First Lady Under Fashion Fire!

I knew that it would only be a matter of time before the attacks would begin on Michelle Obama and her fashion choices. Recently, in WWD, co-founder of the Black Artists Association, Amnau Eele said,

"It's fine and good if you want to be all 'Kumbaya' and 'We Are the World' by representing all different countries. But if you are going to have Isabel Toledo do the inauguration dress, and Jason Wu do the evening gown, why not have Kevan Hall, B Michael, Stephen Burrows or any of the other black designers do something too?" Asked if perhaps the First Lady isn't looking at the world colorlessly, Eele said, "It's one thing to look at the world without color but she had seven slots to wear designer clothes. Why wasn't she wearing the clothes of a black designer? That was our moment."

Personally, I think that it's wonderful that Michelle selected up and coming designers to represent. We must remember that President Obama wasn't elected into office because he is African American, but because he is the best man for the job. Let us also remember that it wasn't just African Americans that voted, but by every race of people. If only African Americans voted for Obama, then I do believe McCain would be our president.

Email me and tell me what you think. I would love to hear from YOU!

Michelle Wu'd the Inauguration Crowd

Two days before the inauguration, I had gotten into a debate regarding Michelle Obama's fashion choices. My beloved aunt believed that Mrs. Obama would select a well known fashion designer like, Oscar de la Renta or Carolina Herrera to wear to the inaugural celebrations. However, I told my aunt that I didn't believe she would select a celebrity designer and that she would wear a dress from a up and coming designer...I WAS RIGHT!

I was happy to see that Michelle had indeed selected a ball gown from a new designer. Jason Wu is 26 years old and born in Taipei, but has lived in Vancouver and Paris. Wu, a graduate from the Parsons School of Design and interned with Narciso Rodriguez (whom was made famous when Caroline Bissette Kennedy wore his wedding gown). His designs are carried in such top name stores as Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. When I viewed Wu's Spring 2009 collection, I could see why the First Lady selected this young designer. His designs are influenced by old Hollywood, when women wear polished to perfection; but with a twist of modernism. The shapes of the dresses fit Michelle's form perfectly; with fitted bodices and the ease of the lower torso. An excellent choice to match Michelle's hour-glass figure.

In was inevitable that Michelle would select a new designer, after all, her husband's entire presidential platform was for change. I'm excited to see fashion history unfold with First Lady Michelle Obama!

For 2009: Update Your Wardrobe!

Over the years, my wardrobe has become somewhat lack-luster. I've been lusting after so many great pieces that I've seen in the stores and fashion magazines. Recently I took an inventory of my closet and made of list of items that I want to place in my wardrobe. Take a look at my Polyvore to see what I came up with:
